Creating Conversations

Death & Grief Cafes

Our Death & Grief Cafes offer a safe, confidential, and welcoming space where people—often strangers—come together to talk openly about death, dying, and grief.

There is no agenda or objectives; the conversation is simply led by the people in the group. We sit in small groups so it’s easy to participate. It is a place to talk and share or just listen.

At a Death Cafe, the focus is on exploring feelings, questions, and reflections about death and mortality. The aim is to increase awareness of death, encouraging us to live our finite lives to the fullest.

At our Grief Cafes, the conversation focuses on the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of grief, providing a space for connection and support.

Talking About the End of Life: A Conversation worth Having

Thursday February 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Free

Some conversations matter too much to avoid.

This event explores why talking about death and dying, and planning for the end of life, is so important, and how we can start these conversations with confidence and care.

The session will include short discussions, brief presentations, and practical input from two speakers on various aspects of planning for the end of life: Waltham Forest’s End of Life Clinical Lead and Allistair Anderson from Compassionate Funerals in Wanstead.

You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience. The session will be interactive, but there will be no pressure to participate. You’re welcome to listen, share, or simply reflect — whatever feels right for you.

What we’ll explore

  • The language we use around death — and why it matters
  • What can stop us from talking about death and dying
  • What can change when we do have these conversations
  • Practical ways to plan ahead: including future care and treatment wishes and funerals.
  • Tips for starting conversations with people we care about and/or support.

Who it is for

This evening is for anyone who wants to feel more confident talking about and planning for the end of life.

You might find it especially helpful if you are:

  • Thinking about your own future care, treatment or funeral wishes
  • Supporting, or beginning to support, a partner, parent, friend or relative
  • Someone working in a health & social care setting
  • Wanting to have more open and honest conversations about death and dying
  • Curious about planning ahead and making your wishes known

Do come and join us.
