Death & Grief Cafes
Our Death & Grief Cafes offer a safe, confidential, and welcoming space where people—often strangers—come together to talk openly about death, dying, and grief.
There is no agenda or objectives; the conversation is simply led by the people in the group. We sit in small groups so it’s easy to participate. It is a place to talk and share or just listen.
At a Death Cafe, the focus is on exploring feelings, questions, and reflections about death and mortality. The aim is to increase awareness of death, encouraging us to live our finite lives to the fullest.
At our Grief Cafes, the conversation focuses on the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of grief, providing a space for connection and support.

Join us at Leytonstone Library to talk openly about death, dying & the end of life in a safe and confidential space.
Our Death Cafe is a safe, confidential and friendly space for people to come together and talk openly and honestly about death, dying, and making the most of our finite lives. Small groups sit around a table and conversation flows without agenda or direction. The conversation is led by the people in the group, and therefore, each session is unique.
A hot drink and biscuits will be available!
It’s important to note that Death Cafe is not a bereavement/grief support resource and we advise that you do not attend if you have been very recently bereaved and your grief feels very raw.
Why do people attend?
People attend a Death Cafe for all sorts of reasons. It might be that an illness or getting older makes death feel more present and they feel a need to talk or explore it further.
Some people come because they want to find out how to broach the subject of death and dying with someone close to them, like parents or grandparents. Or it might be a fear of death or dying that prompts someone to attend. For some people, it is just a desire to be more open or a curiosity about the subject.
